How to Fold Felt Roof Corners in Kent: A Step-by-Step Guide

At PJ Roofing, trading as A1 Roofing Canterbury, we understand the importance of a watertight roof, especially in Kent's unpredictable weather. One crucial aspect of ensuring a secure and waterproof roof is properly folding felt roof corners. In this article, we'll walk you through the process of folding felt roof corners, highlighting the key steps and tips to achieve a professional finish.

Materials Needed:

  • Felt roofing material
  • Adhesive (specifically designed for felt roofing)
  • Trims (optional)
  • Nails
  • Safety gear (gloves, safety glasses, etc.)

Step 1: Prepare the Area

Before starting, make sure the flat roof surface is clean, dry, and free from debris. Ensure the area is safe to work on, and consider using safety gear to prevent accidents.

Step 2: Measure and Cut the Felt

Measure the length of the roof corner, taking into account any extra material needed for folding. Cut the felt roofing material to the required size, leaving a little extra for trimming.

Step 3: Apply Adhesive

Apply a thin layer of adhesive to the back of the felt, following the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure to cover the entire area, but avoid applying too much adhesive, which can lead to a messy finish.

Step 4: Fold the Felt

To fold the felt, start by creating a 45-degree angle at the corner. Fold the felt back, creating a crisp crease, and then fold it back again, creating a second crease. This will form a neat, triangular shape.

Step 5: Secure the Fold

Use nails to secure the folded felt in place, making sure to space them evenly apart. Apply gentle pressure to ensure the felt is tightly secured, but avoid applying too much pressure, which can cause damage to the felt or the roof.

Step 6: Trim Excess Felt

Use a utility knife or scissors to trim any excess felt, creating a neat, flush finish. Apply trims (if using) to cover any exposed edges.
