A1 Roofing Canterbury

A green roof, also known as a living roof, is a type of roofing system that is covered with plants and other vegetation. In Kent, green roofs are becoming increasingly popular as a sustainable and environmentally-friendly option for buildings. At PJ Roofing, trading as A1 Roofing Canterbury, we specialize in providing high-quality roofing services, including green roofs, to customers throughout Kent.

Green roofs offer a range of benefits, including improved insulation, reduced stormwater runoff, and increased biodiversity. They can also provide a peaceful oasis in urban areas, creating a habitat for wildlife and a space for recreation and relaxation. In addition, green roofs can help to reduce the urban heat island effect, making cities cooler and more comfortable.

Green roofs are designed to be self-sustaining ecosystems, with plants and soil working together to create a thriving environment. The roof is typically covered with a waterproof membrane, followed by a layer of soil and plants. The plants are chosen for their ability to thrive in shallow soil and withstand the elements, and are often drought-tolerant to minimize watering requirements.

There are several types of green roofs, including extensive and intensive systems. Extensive green roofs are shallow and lightweight, with a thin layer of soil and plants. They are often used on flat roofs and are relatively low-maintenance. Intensive green roofs, on the other hand, are deeper and more complex, with a thicker layer of soil and a wider variety of plants. They are often used on pitched roofs and require more maintenance.

In Kent, green roofs are a popular choice for buildings of all types, from residential homes to commercial properties. They are particularly well-suited to the county's mild climate and can be designed to thrive in a range of conditions. At PJ Roofing, we have experience installing green roofs in areas throughout Kent, including Canterbury, Aylesham, Ashford, Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate, and Ramsgate.
